Tawa Sherpa

Climbing sherpa

Escaping the Maoists around 2005, Tawa started trekking and quickly became cook for some of our toughest treks. He has also worked on Everest initially as camp 2 cook and rose to become a strong climbing sherpa, and has summited Everest several times. Tawa has trekked across the whole country including some of our very toughest treks, carrying a huge load so that we didn't take porters across Sherpani Col-West Col, and his quick reactions literally saved the life of the guide of another group, right in front of me.

We have been working together since 2005.

We had a marvelous time.  Everything went well and there were no problems.  No difficulty in getting lodging as our timing seemed to be perfect for avoiding bigger groups.  We actually didn't see that many trekkers, and no big groups.  The food was generally fine for us too, actually seemed better in the higher elevations.  We lost some weight, which is not a bad thing for us!  Our general perception was we were glad to be doing the tea house approach.  (We brought too much stuff though)...

Tawa, Arjun and Tshering were fabulous - hard working, friendly, humble etc.  We truly enjoyed their company and would recommend them to anyone.  Tawa was flexible and I think we took 2 or 3 days less than the itinerary.  We hope we gave them generous tips.    Nabin was most helpful too - really appreciate him "holding our hand" while working thru delayed luggage problem the first couple days in Kathmandu.  And he was great in setting us up to go to Pokhara for a few days after the trek.
