Our Tibet tours**Well done on reaching this page. While our partners still run Tibet tours we no longer advertize them.** The roof of the world is a unforgettable land of curious nomads, mysterious gompas and breathtakingly vast panoramas. In Lhasa, long the forbidden city, experience the timeless and most holy Jokhang temple and see the legendary eighth-wonder Potala Palace and more. Admire Everest from the moonscape of Everest Base Camp and end in exotic Kathmandu. Here we mainly describe the practical details of the trips but Tibet is an immensely historic place with unrivalled culture and is staggeringly beautiful in its stark simplicity. This is for you to discover and enjoy, we hope we can assist. Together with our Nepal operator we have become one of the premier Tibet tour organizers, Jamie has travelled across Tibet ten times, completed three koras of Kailash and even climbed Everest; our Nepal operator has trusted staff based in Lhasa and Zhangmu to ensure everything runs smoothly - use our experience for the journey of a lifetime. You can begin from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and other places but in many ways beginning in Kathmandu is better. All tours finish in Kathmandu. Our group size varies but tends to be 3-8 people and the maximum is 12 people.

What our clients have saidI am not fond of blowing my own trumpet, but we care and really try to run good trips, rather than cheap trips: My guide and driver in Tibet ( Phur Pu and Lhak) were absolutely great and helpful to me. My driver was a joy and gave the holiday a touch of magic by driving wherever possible off the dusty roads and on to the walking tracks. I can't tell you the pleasure of just the 3 of us being out there on our own with the glorious views of Everest popping up all over the place. The Base Camp itself was forgettable, but the achievement of actually getting there was again something that I will never forget. ... The main problem that I experienced were the guest houses once we left Lhasa, I had expected basic but perhaps not that basic. No ones fault, just me being too optimistic in what to expect. ... A BIG thank you for assisting Maryanne and I in organising our Kharta trek. The phone conversations we had, email support and co-ordination with your cohorts at Explore Himalaya was greatly appreciated. Arthur Koutsodimitropoulos [Custom Kharta Valley, May 2006]
By the time you get this, I will have been back from Tibet for a total of five days. I'm still reeling from the experience. Having grown up in the Canadian Rockies, I thought I understood the word "mountainscape" but I don't possess the vocabulary to express Tibet properly. I do want to say a huge thank you. I will be touring with you again-next time will be a proper trek, hopefully. Our Tibetan guide, Kunga, was fantastic-always had answers, solutions, and good anecdotes, not to mention a huge smile. Our driver, Ngima, was amazing, despite potholes that would have eaten the suspension on a lesser vehicle. The accommodations were generally excellent-even Rongbuk guesthouse was OK, as long as you can view some aspects of it with a long eye towards cultural differences *grin*. Overall, it was a fantastic trip, and it was undoubtedly the opening of a a new chapter in my mountain adventures. I can say with great certainty that I will be back to the Himalaya... Yes, I had a wonderful experience with Explore Himalaya and would highly recommend them. All the hotels they used getting to base camp were wonderful. The main guide for non-climbing who was with us in Tibet was incredible and totally went out of his way to make everything run smooth. And the climbing guides where great -- very accomplished and strong and good cooks too. Sheila, Colorado [ABC trek, 2004]
A belated thanks for the holiday that we had in Tibet. It was an incredible experience and certainly one of the best experiences we have had travelling. Mark and Ieda [Lhasa & Rongbuk 11 day fixed departure, 2004]
... Had a fantastic trip into Tibet. Great itinerary, fantastic staff that went out of there way to show us things and places that were not on the schedule. They, Tashi and Tson-du were friendly and a good laugh but also very informative on all the thousands of questions we had for them. Thanks again Sarah Groves [Lhasa & Rongbuk 11 day fixed departure, 17
June 2002] I loved, loved, loved my trip to Tibet! I am still talking about it and look at my photos almost everyday. I made a really nice photo album and I've labeled the photos with captions and dates (so organized!) Anyway, I feel like I am on some kind of book signing tour because all my friends want to see it. I'm sure you'll hear from Joel that we had a great group.
No whiners or complainers in the bunch. I won the prize of getting the sickest
but Joel took really good care of me and I bounced back quickly. Michelle W [Tibet Explorer 2002]
I just wanted to thank you for you advice. We used Explore Himalaya to assist us with a Kharta Valley trek and overlanding from Lhasa to Kathmandu. Bimal did a great job setting it up and Tswan was our guide in Tibet. He was fantastic, taking good care of us and all the details, plus his amazing knowledge of Buddhism. Our trek into Pethang Ringmo went without a hitch in perfect (mostly clear days and nights) weather. Our whole experience in Tibet was fantastic and our itinerary was selected due to the advice you gave. Back in Nepal, we did the Langtang trek using your guide book and had a great time. Your willingness to give advice was a big part of our success. Many many thanks!! David Graham [custom trip, 2001] ![]() jdesign -- all rights reserved -- frozen in time July 2013 |
