Kanchen Gola Wild 2002 - Yangma to Ghunsa

After exploring above Yangma we crossed to Ghunsa and the main Kanchenjunga region.

Naturally this involved crossing a range of mountains and instead of one pass it was a classic
high traverse involving a series of small passes, one of the most wonderful alpine trekking
routes that we have done. It wasn't extreme, just beautiful.

Andy admires the view as we cross another minor pass.

This is Yangma (Yangmak), the only village in the upper region of the valley systems we explored.

Glaciers almost close enough to touch!

A rich sunset was reward for camping rather late one evening.

Another evening there wasn't flat space for all our tents so we ate under a tarp and some of us slept outside.

One of the delights (at least to me, if not everyone) was the occasionally rough terrain.
We crossed several glacier beds, descending then climbing up the moraine on the sides. Each time they looked scary and
maybe very difficult, but with small rough trails up, were a manageable adventure.

We used two yaks for a couple of days once we had sent lots of porters back.
