to C1We headed up for a six day acclimatization trip 19 Sept: to Depot Camp 5860mIt is a slog over rough and steep moraine up to the "Depot Camp". Even though the sherpas and Tibetans carried the tents, stoves and fuel, everyone was still loaded down. "Where's Bob?". Warwick and and Simona knew. But they weren't at the camp, having all lost their way. Da'Yula to the rescue, bringing them back to the worse but more convenient spot. Chris's solidity scale was a one - see later.

Dorje and Tsering Dorje helping out with loads to Depot Camp - Mike Teger There seems to be a competition for the oldest, roughest tents that stay at Depot Camp. Our one is certainly down there with the worst. |

Scott looks at the route, Ed wonders - Bob B 20 Sept: up to C1HOT. Mike stripped down to his 'Underoos", a sight we won't dare put on the site, in consideration of his fiancée. Warwick and Simona stayed an extra day at Depot camp, Warwick with a cold he wanted to beat and Simona still feeling delicate from her previous sickness.

Once thru it was a further three hours up of HOT, HOT, HOT to Camp 1. Plenty of crevasses that the sherpas fixed rope over. It was hard work setting up the tents. |
