Advanced Base Camp at last!

16 Sept: to Xixa ABC

Our yak drivers, 11 of them, with 32 yaks, said they wanted to head up to ABC in one day. The normal is two short days. Jamie provided no guarantees about how well this would work. Two years ago coming up in one day the expedition arrived after dark in minor chaos.

This time we were more organized, the first lot of yaks out the gate was loaded with kitchen and dining gear - if worst comes to the worst, we had enough to survive. As it turned out everything arrived before dark and although we were all tired, camp sprang up and Dal Bhaat followed soon after.

17 Sept: Scott quotes

By necessity we can't put these on the same page as the puja.

"If your lama cord is tied too long it is a problem when you are lying on top of someone"

Scott with the pre-dinner snacks: "multi-racial foreskins".
And on being told this would go on the website, he offered apologies to his mother.

The climbers with Monterosa held their puja today and rather took the drinking to heart, the Slovenians plus a few Italians were still singing and vomiting at 3am.

And Greg:

Well, who admitted he couldn't remember his girlfriend's phone number? Then he admitted he could remember his girlfriends' email address, Mountain Wench... which requires yet more explanation. We still don't know her real name though, but Greg definitely won't admit to forgetting that. Even if he won't tell us.

18 Sept: ABC

ABC with three quarters of the tents visible; from the left, Italian group 1, then Italian group 2,
