To Interim Camp

Our 2010 Project Himalaya Everest Expedition 8848m dispatches

We trek from Everest BC to interim camp

21 April - trek to Interim 5700m

The team except Jamie got away quickly and took an average 5 hours to trek up to Interim. Jamie waited back while the yak loads were sorted out and didn't leave until 12 noon.

Everest and prayer flags - Jamie

Yep, this is a tough walk, with every hill seemingly worse than the last, as Fernando says, and endless rocks to trip over. Sometimes getting stuck behind a yak caravan is a blessing, meaning you don't have to try to pretend you can actually walk without stopping for the a breath. When not looking at your feet though...

Pumori from Tibet

Tibetan Snowcock

Tibetan snowcock come to the trail to pick out the undigested bits of grass in the yak dung.
Perhaps then also just like to be social, a wary social - Jamie

Once at Interim, the wind the wind picked up and we were happy to be staying in the comfortable Arun Logistics camp (thanks, Duncan).

Interim Camp

Bet some people jumped when that penitente fell! (Nobody was under it at the time).

22 April - trek to ABC 6350m

I - Jamie - warned this would be a tough trek, after all we are trekking to 21,000ft!

And yes, it was tough but only Fernando struggled a little. We were glad that the camp was already set up though, and the sherpas were very welcoming.

Current Everest forecast by Mountain Meteo Services - thanks!
