Lhakpa RiA quick diversion Julian summits and Moe is tested; Pramod is tested and
summits
Lhakpa Ri 7045m from ABC 24 May - Lhakpa RiWe had two groups for the Lhakpa Ri trekking peak, together with some trekkers. Jamie would love to have gone up but instead went to BC (4.15 hours down) to sort out logistics. (Yes, a long walk to ask a few questions and sort out details, however worth it. One expedition had their yaks turn up 5 days earlier than they were expecting, a major c0ckup as their gear is still high on the mountain.) Dawa, Moe, and Julian set off, Moe making it up to the rocky ridge before calling it quits, tired and feeling unusually lethargic. Julian and and Dawa summitted.
Crossing the hard glacier, just beginning the ascent
A very satisfactory summit!
Dawa radios success; Everest in the background, and unusual view of it Returning tired, back in ABC Julian was confronted with with a patient, the Tibetan working for Arun who had had stomach for several days, but they had turned serious. Another doctor at ABC was blasé, but Julian recognized it as either a perforated intestine or appendicitis. In a major rescue 3 Tibetans (including Dorje) and Da'yula carried Nuru down from 8:30pm down to BC arriving around 6:30 am. What an utterly incredible effort. Dawa (Arun BC manager) soon had him in a old jeep to the hospital in Shegar where we hope he got the operation he needs. More news when we have some. 25 May - Jamie to ABCI sorted out the logistics of how the expedition will end but we still have considerable flexibility thanks the the liaison officers. Our current plan is the 19 yaks will turn up to ABC on 3 June, take our gear to BC on 4 June and we will be back in Kathmandu on 5 or 6 June. Phew! but first we have to get to the summit. I left BC at midday - late - but made it up before darkness, meeting near ABC Pramod, Tawa and Kipa who had just summitted Lhakpa Ri, delaying a day to help acclimatization. Pramod booked Lhakpa Ri thru Project Himalaya-Explore Himalaya. Our teamPaul, Duncan and Sukhi have been resting, keenly watching the weather forecasts. More tomorrow. |
