Base CampHow can you communicate with us? Read on... 24 April - Everest Base CampWe have now switched to Nepal time, which is equivalent to the sun time here, rather than Beijing time, which is two and a quarter hours different, so our previous 8am rises were really 5:45am equivalent. Perhaps we went to bed too early, or confused, but perhaps more likely everyone was just excited to be here, but everyone started rising just as the sun hit Everest, well before 6am. We have breakfast only when the sun hits our tents, around 7am or so. Yes, the views this morning were apparently spectacular. Higher on Everest the winds are raging, and a cold wind is blowing thru BC, currently late in the afternoon in our dining tent it is 14C (feels warmer) and outside is 7C. At night it doesn't feel as cold as it has previously when we have first arrived, temperatures tomorrow; we set up our brand new thermometer only today. Our planOne should always remain flexible, but here is what we are currently planning: 25 April - BC (Matt and Jayne and Kunga leave) 26 April - trek Interim camp 27 April - stay at Interim camp to acclimatize 28 April - trek to ABC (Advance Base Camp) 29 April - ABC rest 30 April - ABC puja ceremony Contacting usJamie mobile phoneAll roaming-enabled mobile phones work at BC (NOT at ABC) although only some text messages seem to get thru. Jamie's Chinese mobile number is +86 135 4906 7755. Jamie satellite phoneJamie has a satellite phone that is usually on during the day. Don't call it as you will get charged around $8 a minute; instead you can send free text messages to it. Please put the name of the person the message is for first. Go to https://sms.thuraya.com and enter "21273393" and write a short message - no more than 140 characters, even though it says 160 characters (the name and some overhead is included). Team emailYou can email the team "everest at project-himalaya.com" and turn " at " into @, please put the name of the person who it is to in the subject line. Please email only plain text, no photos. Any large emails will not be downloaded. We regularly check email at BC and ABC but will not be checking it when we are climbing. |
