More Everest BC time

We are getting established.

Project Himalaya

The Project Himalaya team have been waiting at Lukla and should, with a little luck, be in Kathmandu.

Everest Peace Project 20 April

We are settling in BC now and after a couple of nights of Diamox and Paracetamol now everyone is sleeping well drug-free. It always takes a few days to get used to the large jumps in altitude, and that is why we will stay at the base camp, 5150m, for almost a week.

Tonya says:

Everest looms over us, she is HUGE. You can’t help but look up at her constantly. She is not intimidating, in fact I have the opposite problem of thinking it looks totally doable. We are looking at a lot of rock and very little snow. The flume is actually the most intimidating thing we see each day. The winds must be at least 100mph up there right now.

21 April

We took a day trip down to Rongbuk Monastery to test acclimatization, and had great views of Everest all the way.

21 April: Sadly Pasang Dorje, one of the Project Himalaya climbing sherpas has a bad stomach ulcer and so we arranged an evacuation to Tingri for him today, and he will go to Zhangmu tomorrow and get more treatment there.
