Getting to Base Camp

Hello! We have a few more pictures from Tingri but the good news is we are at Base Camp.

Project Himalaya

The Project Himalaya team is due to arrive in Kathmandu tomorrow. The situation there is bad right now and we have several contingency plans made; most likely they will stay only a short time and helicopter to the border, crossing into Tibet quickly. So don't worry about them too much.

Everest Peace Project

Here is a photo from Tingri, 4350m, where we spent two nights acclimatizing. The meals were not as good as in the past and we mostly got a little sick from here, but nothing to worry about.

Clockwise from the closest person: Lance, Micha, Tonya, Ali, Brad, Dudu, Gautam and Sele

Everyone in the team is acclimatizing well.

17 April

We took the shortcut from Tingri to Base Camp, a stunningly beautiful drive.

Here we are cruising in a Landcruiser, Jamie, Tonya and Sele with our good Tibetan driver.
Jamie is taking the photo...

Brad filming out of the window of the Landcruiser as we cross a patch of ice.

Going up in altitude makes you pee a lot, a good sign as it shows you are adapting to the altitude.

Everest looking moody. After only 3 hours we reached Rongbuk Monastery where I just had time to snap this, our first real view of Everest, before we continued to Base Camp.

We arrived at Base Camp! We reached here in time for lunch and took it easy in the afternoon. The weather was deteriorating.

18 April

During the night it snowed so our plans of hooking up the solar panels were put on hold.

Namgyal with the big boots on and even a neoprene face mask to cope with the blustery, snowy weather.
Dorje, the kitchen hand to the right will be familiar to our followers, this is his seventh expedition with us.
