Our ABC Puja

we show respect to the mountain

20 Sept - Puja

We woke to light snow but as Dawa, who is a spent 6 years training as a lama, prepared for the puja the skies cleared slightly. During the service we had glimpses of the mountain at auspicious times.

Andrew Lock arrived at ABC yesterday from Camp 2. Zac and team are on the mountain and will have a puja later.

This offering is made from butter and tsampa

Dawa places his rather more used ice axe in the pile of tools to be blessed;
or excused for damaging the mountain

This pile of food is blessed and then distributed to everyone around

Dawa's sonorous chanting was hypnotising;
he first wrote these prayers for our Shishapangma expedition last year.

We put up the prayer flags and tied katas to the different strands (not seen)
hoping for a safe and successful climb

Arnauld and myself plan a day trip to Camp 1 tomorrow; Andrew will probably rest and Evan will begin establishing his camps.
