The trek to ABC

we trek to Gyabla, intermediate camp, then ABC

17 Sept - trek to Gyabla

We trekked up to Gyabla, or Intermediate Camp with 4 yaks, the rest of our gear for ABC is already there with Andrew and Zac and company. Here we stayed in one of the local teashops rather than unpacking all our gear. We drank rather more beer than we should have.

Dawa runs one of the four teashops now at Gyabla or Intermediate camp.

18 Sept - trek to ABC

It snowed about 5 centimetres and since it was partly cloudy we had a leisurely start. The highlight was eating muesli with chopsticks.

Dolma wakes up; she has been living at 5375m almost since she was born.

What a cutie, she has tea while we have breakfast

Dorje, one of our kitchen staff, helps the yakpa load a yak with two 30kg drums.

This was from our last Cho Oyu expedition, but conditions were not so different.

We trekked up to ABC (Advanced Base Camp), arriving in time for lunch.

Evan and Arnauld have had minor headaches, which is to be expected at this 5700m high altitude. We have met Tawa, the cook, and Danuru, the other Tibetan kitchen hand. It has snowed lightly during the afternoon, real monsoon conditions, but we found out that at least 8 climbers summitted today, 4 Singaporeans with 4 sherpas.

Everyone is otherwise well. The other part of the team who arrived a week earlier are up on the mountain.
