Sheila's Khumbu High trek photos 5: Namche fun

Jamie and Jan successfully climbed Island Peak while the more sensible people trekked down from Dingboche at a more leisurely pace. In Namche they celebrated Kim's birthday, at least that was the excuse for a general piss-up.

Ang Dami, Joel and Nima (2nd porter leader). Both have trekked with us 4-5 times, so you will see their smiling faces too, if you come trekking with us...

yak caravan

Yak caravans were a common sight. Each sack doesn't look that big,
but they are filled with rice or grain and weight 30kgs each!

Tengboche Gompa is stunningly set; this is taken from near the gompa looking to Ama Dablam (right) and Everest, and the Lhotse-Nuptse wall.

The trek from Pangboche down towards Tengboche (seen in the left on the wooded ridge) is stunning,
here is the Kongde mountain range that sits opposite Namche.

Our porters enjoy a well-deserved beer - great job, guys! Gombu, leaning over on the left, has trekked with me 3 times now, and the two guys to the right of him, twice.

Damn, everyone knew the flash was coming and closed their eyes... Or was it alcohol induced??

Natang (the Namche Moonlight lodge owner) and Ang Dami (our porter leader) bring them in - and the result...

Oh yes, it was Kim's birthday (earlier it was Joel's and Jamie's too, all on the same trek - it is worth coming on our December trek for all the extra cakes alone!)

Kim cries...
