Christmas Khumbu 2002 - Everest trek

Graeme, Peter and Michael trekked with me and at times also with Kim and Joel. Generously Peter
collected $600 in donations and from his own pocket for schools in the Everest region so Joel helped
shop for supplies in Kathmandu and then Peter, Joel and Kim began the trek early from Phaplu
and distributed supplies as they went. Jamie met Michael and Graeme in Kathmandu and we joined
forces at Namche.

This is the gompa above the village of Cheplung, which sometimes we have visited, although not on this trip - Jamie

Katas (white'silk' scarfs) are given to bless the journey of family and good friends, and many people tie them to the bridge - Jamie

Joel, Kim and Jamie had their birthdays on the trek so Natang of Moonlight lodge serves a cake his wife Pemba made and a bottle of French wine - Jamie

Back on the trail above Namche the views suddenly open out. Everest is in the centre and the attention-stealing Ama Dablam on the right - Jamie

Looking back the view is captivating too, the middle hills soften in the distance - Jamie

The gompa at Tengboche is magnificently set, although this is more apparent the more you trek the surrounding area - Jamie
