2008 season

For several years India and Pakistan have been trying to resolve differences, and tensions are at their lowest for years. The countries are slowly moving (with inevitable hiccups) towards a permanent solution. Now the problem is much more internal, general dissatisfaction within Kashmir, however tourists are not a target.

If travelling be mentally prepared for random strikes and other disturbances. We still do not recommend trekking out of Srinagar and the trekking routes that are accessed from that side of Kashmir.

Sikkim

I am not sure what the situation is for Sikkim treks. Assam is making the headlines constantly but these have no effect on Sikkim travel.
